Indian Cricket League Announce Plans For 2008
The inaugural Indian Cricket League competition was brought to a rousing finale on Sunday with the Chennai Superstars beating the Chandigarh Lions by 12 runs, but that is far from the end of the ICL story.
Some five further tournaments are scheduled for 2008 as the ICL plans for expansion.
In February, the ICL will launch its 50 over tournament, with Indian domestic players involved, while in February and March, a triangular tournament involving an ICL XI will take place.
From March to April, the ICL Grand Championship will take place, which will be an eight team tournament, while from April to May, ICL Academies will open in prominent Indian cities.
In September, an ICL Invitation Cup will take place before the second ICL Indian Championship will take place, with eight teams taking part.
Kapil Dev, Chairman of the Indian Cricket League said, “We are overwhelmed to see the enthusiasm that Indian Cricket League has been able to generate amongst fans, not only in India but world over. With such a great response we are happy to announce the way forward for the league in the coming year. The season will ensure an immensely enjoyable cricket carnival. I would like to thank all who have made Indian Cricket League a success.”
